In a significant move to tighten security at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Odisha government is seriously considering the deployment of advanced anti-drone technology. This development comes amid growing concerns over the safety and sanctity of the 12th-century shrine, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India.

According to official sources, the Law Department has already initiated discussions with the Police Department regarding the implementation of this technology. The system, once installed, will be capable of detecting and disabling unauthorized drones flying over the temple premises, ensuring they are safely brought down without causing harm.

Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Friday stated that the matter is under active consideration and discussions are at an advanced stage. He added that if required, the temple administration is ready to fund the installation of the system to maintain the sanctity and security of the shrine.

“We have already prepared a SOP. Discussion has been made, and if needed, anti-drone technology will be used. We will urge the Odisha Police in this regard. The funds required for the project, the temple administration will arrange. The anti-drone technology will help us to seize the functioning of drones within a specified radius,” said Harichandan.

The decision is seen as a proactive measure to prevent potential security breaches and to maintain the spiritual sanctity of the temple, which attracts millions of devotees and tourists every year.

The move has been welcomed by devotees and security experts alike, especially at a time when drone-related threats are becoming increasingly common in sensitive zones across the country.
