The educational institution in Bhogarai
A disturbing case of student harassment and subsequent suicide has emerged from RIHS College in Bhogarai of Balasore district, on Sunday. The accused professor has gone missing after media reports brought the past matter into public attention again.
According to sources, a serious controversy has erupted again after a long lapse of time, which occurred in RIHS College in Bhogarai, after allegations surfaced that a professor had mentally harassed a female student, leading to her death by suicide four years ago.
Following media exposure, the accused professor identified as Jugajyoti Chand has gone absconding. Despite several attempts by the college to contact him, there has been no response, and he has not submitted any formal communication explaining his absence.
This incident has resurfaced in the wake of recent harassment case at FM College, adding further fuel to public outrage.
The victim girl, a resident of Karihanda village in Bhogarai, allegedly took an extreme step and had ended her life after being subjected to harassment. Her family continues to seek justice and has renewed their calls for accountability following the latest revelations.
Locals and student rights activists have demanded immediate and strict action against the professor. Besides, the college authorities are yet to issue any formal statement or initiate disciplinary proceedings.
The community in Bhogarai is now rallying behind the student’s family, calling for justice and systemic changes to prevent such tragedies from recurring in future in the educational institutions.
“A girl student had committed suicide around four years ago. Which party was in power at that time and why no action was taken by it? Where was the erstwhile MLA sleeping? Would the sitting MLA raise this issue and take steps for a probe?” Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi questioned while speaking to mediapersons.
“If this allegation would come to me, certainly I will make the necessary arrangements for a detailed probe of it,” the Balasore MP asserted.
