MKCG Medical College & Hospital
Berhampur’s prestigious MKCG Medical College and Hospital is in the midst of yet another ragging controversy. This time, a second-year MBBS student has brought serious allegations of mental and physical harassment against five fourth-year students of Hostel 4.
The victim student along with his father lodged a complaint with the National Medical Commission (NMC). The commission has directed the Dean Professor Suchitra Dash to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the anti-ragging committee at the MCH has initiated a probe into the allegations. A 15-member anti-raging cell meeting has been called and the senior students will be barred from the college hostel for six months, if they are found guilty, said sources.
A few days back, three second-year MBBS students had alleged harassment by their seniors and knocked the door of NMC. Sources said, on their promotion to second year, the students were lodged in hostels (1, 3 and 4). However, they alleged torture, harassment and ragging by their seniors in the new hostels.
Many students have accused their seniors of switching off the hostel lights and beating them up, abusing them and even forcing them to dance. The students further alleged that they are being brutally thrashed by the seniors whenever they try to resist the torture.
A copy of the complaint has also been forwarded to the University Grants Commission (UGC)’s anti-ragging helpline.
Meanwhile, the dean said that steps are being taken to keep the campus ragging free.
