Mayurbhanj District Collector Hema Kanta Say has pulled up 'non-performing' officers in the district for being the worst performer in the progressive ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’ announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower people with their own homes.

The District Collector raised concerns via a letter to Block Development Officers (BDOs) and directed them to withhold the salaries of the non-performing officers.

“Even after repeated instructions and monitoring, performance in completion of rural housing is not satisfactory. Furthermore, it is found that the performance of 843 officers, out of 1016, is very poor. They have not even achieved 63% completion, even if after elapsed of 1 year. Their effort in completion of rural houses is very less in comparison to state average (63%), which is totally unacceptable,” the Collector’s letter read.

It further continued, “Hence, it is directed that the salary of these 843 low performing officers will not be released from the month of October 2024 till achievement of 63% against their target.”

No comments could be obtained from the BDOs or the 'non-performing' officers in this connection.

Worth mentioning, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been devised in line with the BJP government’s commitment to providing ‘Housing for All’ and aims at providing a pucca house with all basic amenities to all houseless householders living in kutcha and dilapidated houses.
