Amid Tirupati laddu row, ghee used in Puri Srimandir to be inspected
Amid the row over the use of adulterated ghee at the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh, Puri district Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain on Tuesday informed that the ghee used in Puri Srimandir will be inspected.
Even though no allegation has so far been raised regarding the quality of the ghee used for preparing Prasad in Srimandir, the Tirupati laddu issue has acted as a wakeup call for the Puri district administration that decided to test the ghee as a precautionary measure.

“There is no allegation about the quality of the ghee used for Prasad in Srimandir. Still, we will test the quality of it. Our food safety unit will do it. In the coming days, we will discuss with OMFED or other suppliers and the Suar Mahasuar Nijog to have a standardized ghee for Prasad preparation,” he said.
“Similarly, ghee is also used in lighting lamps in Srimandir. That ghee will also be tested. Our weight and measure and food safety teams will carry out a joint inspection,” he added.
