'Ama Bus' Claims Another Life In Cuttack: Youth Killed In Tragic Accident

A youth was killed after being hit by an ‘Ama Bus’ near Barang Block Chhak in Cuttack district on Monday. The deceased was reportedly riding a motorcycle when the speeding bus, en route from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack, rammed into him from behind.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the collision was severe, and the youth was crushed under the wheels of the bus. Locals rushed to the spot and informed the police.

The identity of the victim is yet to be officially confirmed. Police have seized the bus and detained the driver for questioning. An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.

The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Residents in the area have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and speed monitoring to prevent such tragedies.

Recurring pattern of mishaps

This is not the first time an ‘Ama Bus’ has been involved in a fatal mishap, raising concerns over rash driving and road safety.

A horrific accident on May 28, 2025, involved an Ama Bus colliding with three motorcycles near Sakhigopal in Pipili. Three individuals sustained critical injuries, requiring emergency rescue efforts by locals.

On May 14, 2025, an Ama Bus struck a motorcycle near Panda Sahi in Bhubaneswar, killing one person instantly and critically injuring another. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver fled the scene after the collision, with severe head trauma and bleeding observed in the victims. The incident occurred around 5 PM on the Balianta-Nimapada-Gop canal road, prompting immediate police intervention to manage crowd outrage and restore traffic.
