After Chinese vessel, Egyptian flagship vessel arrested at Odisha's Paradip Port

A bulk carrier, sailing under the flagship of Egypt has been arrested at the Paradip Port on the orders of the Orissa High Court. The Paradip Port Authority (PPA) detained the vessel in the presence of local police over a monetary dispute, as per the directive of the High Court.

The arrest of the vessel from Bangladesh comes just a few days after a Chinese vessel was detained in Paradip. The court has directed the vessel to be arrested until further orders. Sources said the vessel has been detained due to a financial dispute between a German company and the vessel owner regarding the delivery of low-sulphur marine gas oil.

According to sources, the Egyptian flagship vessel named ‘MV Wadi Albostan’ had arrived at Paradip on August 6. Initial reports suggest that the vessel had come from Bangladesh and was supposed to go to China with 55, 000 metric tons of iron ore.

But a German company claimed to receive about Rs 4 crore from the ship owner and knocked on the doors of Orissa High Court. The Orissa High Court ordered the bulk carrier detention and appointed Kujang sub-judge as Marshal to execute the issued warrant of detention.

The Kujang sub-judge acting as Marshal along with the local police authority and Paradip marine police arrested the vessel, preventing it from departing Paradip port.
