After Bhubaneswar, fissures in Bhadrak unit of BJD surfaces

After Bhubaneswar, there are reports of infighting within the BJD in Bhadrak. As per reports, two groups were at loggerheads during a review meeting of Bhadrak district held at Sankha Bhawan, the official headquarters of BJD in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The situation was such that one group boycotted the meeting and came out. Later, senior party leader Pranab Prakash Das pacified the group after holding talks with them. The leaders of the same group again attended the meeting after the discussion.

It is pertinent to mention here that the BJD leaders are now expressing their views after the party was dethroned from power. Earlier, the leaders of the party were allegedly not able to present their grievances at party forums. Several leaders had earlier cited these issues as the reason behind the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

Sources said that at the meeting, some leaders expressed concerns over a lack of action against the leaders who allegedly joined hands with other parties during the last elections. This led to a situation of commotion between two groups of the Bhadrak unit of BJD.

However, senior BJD leader Muktikant Mandal refuted any kind of infighting within the party. He said, “There is no opposition and everything is good. It is an internal issue. The party organisation is strong in Bhadrak. We will organise membership drives and padayatra on October 2.

Sanjib Mallick, Bhandaripokhari MLA said, “Nothing of that sort happened. A discussion was held and suggestion from everybody was taken on how to take the party forward.”
