Bhadrak police on Tuesday busted adulterated tobacco trade in Puruna Bazaar area and seized duplicate tobacco worth around Rs 10 lakh. One person was also arrested in connection with the case.

Acting on a tip-off, the Puruna Bazaar police conducted raids in the area and seized 48 packets of duplicate tobacco of different brands.

Besides, the police have also seized packaging materials, chemicals and other incriminating materials during the raid.

During the raid, a huge cache of tobacco including the ingredients was seized. About 22 bags containing 4800 containers, 70 kg adulterated tobacco, eight cartoon packing materials, 20 kg peppermint and four bags zinc and 1108 litre chemical seized,” said Ansuman Dwibedi, Bhadrak city DSP

It seems Bhadrak is fast turning into a big manufacturing hub of fake tobacco products as previously several fake tobacco manufacturing units were busted in the district.

Earlier last year, the Bhadrak police had busted duplicate chewing tobacco manufacturing units at Chandakamahala, Mathasahi, Pathan Mohalla areas in the district and seized huge quantity of duplicate tobacco products of reputed brands, different chemicals and packing machines.
