Additional BDO accused of seeking bribe for marriage certificates, Congress stages protest
The Mazdoor Congress on Wednesday intensified its agitation against the Additional Block Development Officer (BDO) of Purushottampur block in Ganjam district, accusing him of corruption and negligence in official duties.
According to the protestors, the Additional BDO, Nirakar Jena, who has been serving in Purushottampur for several years, has allegedly been demanding bribes from beneficiaries seeking marriage registration certificates. Reports suggest that beneficiaries who approach his office for marriage-related documentation are being forced to pay thousands of rupees, in clear violation of government norms.
The Mazdoor Congress alleged that despite being entrusted with the responsibility of handling marriage registrations, Jena has consistently failed to deliver services fairly and on time. Instead, he is accused of exploiting vulnerable applicants by imposing illegal financial demands.

They have urged the administration to conduct a proper inquiry into the matter and ensure that marriage registration services are provided transparently and without harassment.
The protestors further warned that if immediate action is not taken, the agitation will be intensified in the coming days. The issue has sparked public outrage in the region, with locals calling for accountability and a corruption-free administration.
