About 12 hours after a minor boy was allegedly abducted from his mother’s lap near Patia railway station on Tuesday evening, police rescued the kid safely from Cuttack today.

The police have detained four persons in this connection including the father of the child.

The accused have been identified as Subrat Sethi (Father), Vishnu Prusty (First husband of the child’s mother), Sharat Mohanty and Brajakishore Nath.

As per reports, the child was kidnapped in a car from a market near Patia railway station while the child was with her mother Shantilata Maharana.

The father of the child, Subrat Sethi himself filed a complaint with Mancheswar Police last evening following the abduction, after which the police sprang into action and rescued the child from Cuttack within just 12 hours.

Subrat Sethi who hails from Marthapur in Dhenkanal was staying with a woman named Shantilata Maharana at Andharua on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

As per the police sources, Maharana had married a man named Vishnu Prusty 10 years back. But after a family dispute, Maharana left Prusty and was staying with Sethi since last two years. They have an 11-month-old child together, who was rescued today.

However, dispute cropped up between the couple since last two months. Sethi had a phone conversation with Prusty fifteen days back and both hatched a plan to abduct the child and hand it over to Prusty, the first husband who in turn had promised to give away the child to another friend of him, Sharat Mohanty who is childless.

Prusty reportedly persuaded Sethi to leave Shantilata so that Prusty can get together with her again. Sethi agreed and as per the plan the child was abducted.

The fourth person in this conspiracy, Brajkishore Nath is a friend of Prusty. He arranged the vehicle used in the crime.

Divulging details of the case, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said, “After receiving the complaint, we immediately informed all the police stations nearby. All the PCR vans available were mobilised to find the car used to abduct the child. We even detained some cars with similar description but in vain.”

“So we again asked the father for more clues about the abductors. But his statements and the timeline of events had discrepancies which pointed our doubts towards him. So we confronted him, and confessed before us,” Singh said.

All four accused have been detained by Mancheswar Police and are being questioned.

Recently, a six-year-old girl, who was allegedly kidnapped from Deogarh, was rescued from a road at Badagaon in Sundargarh on Tuesday morning.
