Thousands of enthusiastic participants gathered at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar to join a mini-marathon organised by Odisha Television Network (OTV) on Tuesday on the occasion of World Cancer Day. Embracing the theme 'United by Uniqueness', the event aimed at spreading awareness about cancer.

The mini-marathon kicked off early in the morning from the Kalinga Stadium premises, with people from all walks of life lacing up their running shoes. The crowd included not just regular joggers, but also students, everyday citizens, cancer survivors and celebrities, united by a common purpose and a strong collective spirit to raise awareness and combat cancer.

Emphasizing the event’s importance OTV Managing Director (MD) and Co-Founder Jagi Mangat Panda stated that the mini-marathon aimed to unite and aware people from all walks of life about cancer and the importance of early detection.

“The aim of the mini-marathon is not just to run towards fitness but to run towards awareness. The sooner cancer can be detected, the better it can be treated. Hence, this awareness run is for a very important cause,” she added.

World Cancer Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the disease, its prevention, detection, and treatment and OTV has been playing its part by carrying out awareness with similar initiatives for long, including a mini-marathon last year for the same cause.

“Contrary to perception, getting cancer does not mean the end of one’s life. There are many forms of cancer which are widely treatable including some which have a 95 to 99% cure rate. People should be aware of the possible treatment options and come forward,” said Dr Pritish Patra, a Hematologist at Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar.

The theme 'United by Uniqueness' echoed throughout the event, noting that every person's unique contribution is valuable. Further, the event not only raised awareness but also inspired participants and onlookers to adopt healthier habits.

“Ever since I started my career, I have noticed and participated in many awareness drives by OTV. Cancer awareness is extremely important and goes a long way in helping people live fuller lives,” said actress Lipsa Mishra.

Further, the OTV Bhubaneswar mini-marathon reminded everyone that 'when united, we can overcome challenges and support one another in the pursuit of a healthier future'.
