The Commissionerate Police on Friday detained over 50 women for their alleged involvement in the violent clash that erupted at Padmakesharpur village in the Patia area of Bhubaneswar on October 26.
After arresting 77 males of the village for their involvement in the group clash earlier, the police started apprehending the females of the village. On Friday, over 50 women were detained following which the village bore a deserted look.
Notably, two wards of Padmakesharpur have been at loggerheads since the last Panchayat election two years back. It is pertinent to mention here that these two groups were involved in violence on September 1 this year that had left 10 people seriously injured including two children. More than 20 persons were also arrested by the police and forwarded to the court for inciting violence.
The violence on Thursday was a repercussion of the hostility between the two wards. It reportedly occurred between the supporters of the present Sarpanch and his rival who was defeated in the last election. The clash broke out even though a peace committee was formed to resolve the dispute with dialogue.
Informing about the latest development, Zone-5 ACP Goutam Kisan said, “We arrested 57 persons including women of the village after a midnight raid. After a medical examination, they will be produced in court. We have arrested them for their involvement in the group clash and on the basis of the evidence we have gathered. We are keeping a vigil on the incident.”
