The two sisters admitted to Boudh district headquarters hospital
In a shocking incident, a woman died while her younger sister has been left battling for her life after the sister-duo consumed poison over a family tiff at Mahalik Pada under Harbhanga block of Odisha's Boudh district.
The deceased has been identified as Nalini Sahu, sister of the critical patient Shalini Sahu.
According to sources, Mantu Sahu of Mahalik Pada lived with his wife Nalini, and his two-year-old son. His sister-in-law, Shalini (younger sister of Nalini) had visited the family and was staying with them for a couple of weeks.
The two sisters broke out in a fight over some issue in the absence of Nalini's husband. Tensions over a minor household matter escalated, prompting the sisters to allegedly commit suicide by consuming poison as a desperate measure.
Neighbours rescued the two sisters and rushed them first to the Purunakatak Health Centre before transferring them to Boudh District Hospital. Despite their efforts, Nalini was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, leaving behind her toddler son, who faces the tragedy of losing his mother.
Witnesses describe an emotionally charged scene at the hospital, where the two-year-old boy, too young to grasp the weight of the situation, saw his mother's body being taken away. Montu Sahu, his father, visibly distraught, held the child while assisting the hospital staff.
The incident has profoundly affected the local community. Boudh police is currently investigating, seeking answers as to what might have led to such a tragic decision. Nalini's family is expected to arrive soon to perform her final rites.
The entire village is in mourning after. The case remains under scrutiny, leaving unanswered questions that highlight the need for supportive interventions in domestic matters.
