Odisha unveils mega industrial projects worth Rs 1.65 lakh crore, promising over 52,000 jobs across districts like Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Rayagada.

Mega Industrial Projects

The Odisha government has announced a substantial industrial development initiative, receiving approval from its High-Level Clearance Authority. This plan involves ten major projects across the state with an investment exceeding Rs 1.65 lakh crore. 

The undertakings are expected to generate over 51,939 jobs across sectors including steel, aluminium, power generation, green hydrogen, engineering goods, and green energy equipment.

Diverse Investment Across Districts

The projects will be distributed among districts such as Bhadrak, Cuttack, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, and Rayagada, ensuring balanced regional development.  A significant portion of investment will be channelled into Rayagada, where Vedanta Limited plans two major aluminum projects. 

A 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) alumina refinery will attract an investment of Rs 50,537 crore and create 8,700 jobs. Additionally, a greenfield 1.2 MTPA aluminium smelter will involve Rs 40,991 crore, offering employment to 7,200 people.

Expanding Steel Production

In the steel arena, JSW Steel Limited will set up a 5 MTPA integrated steel plant in Keonjhar, including associated upstream and downstream facilities. This investment of Rs 35,000 crore is expected to open up 8,000 positions. 

Shyam Steel Works Private Limited has earmarked Rs 5,200 crore for a 1.5 MTPA integrated steel plant in Bhadrak, likely to generate 6,000 jobs. OCL Iron and Steel Limited will augment its production capabilities with a 1.2 MTPA plant costing Rs 3,000 crore, promising jobs for 3,500 individuals in Keonjhar.

Energy and Mineral Projects

Meanwhile, Orissa Thermal Energy Limited is set to develop a 2400 Megawatts (MW) ultra-supercritical coal-based power plant in Cuttack, valued at Rs 18,450 crore, which will employ 8,100 people.

Additionally, Orissa Metallurgical Industry Private Limited plans a Titanium Complex in Ganjam, requiring an investment of Rs 8,000 crore and expected to create 8,000 jobs.
