The Odisha government rescheduled ration distribution timing in response to the heat wave conditions prevalent in the State, official sources said on Thursday.

Fresh timing to collect ration items

Beneficiaries can now collect their rations (PDS items) in the mornings between 7.00 AM to 10.00 AM and in the evenings between 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM. This initiative aims to protect citizens from the intense midday heat, a notification issued in this regard mentioned.

The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department has issued directives to all districts to facilitate a smooth supply of ration materials during these revised timings. Beneficiaries are encouraged to adhere to these schedules to ensure they receive their essential supplies effectively, the Food Supplies department notification stated.

The District Collectors have been instructed to implement necessary actions following the Department's guidance. This includes the establishment of temporary shelters, and the provision of safe drinking water and Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) at government-operated fair-price shops to safeguard residents from heat-related stress.

Moreover, similar arrangements for the drinking water and ORS have been suggested for personnel at rice collection and distribution centres, the official communiqué said.

Officials from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department have been tasked with overseeing these procedures to guarantee their successful implementation.
