The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ashwani Kumar said after the CCPA meeting that the idea of an intermediate session in May has been given up and the next session would be the full-fledged Monsoon session.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal had said earlier that several political parties had opposed the idea of an intermediate session and wanted the Monsoon session to be made a seven-week affair rather than a month-long one.
The talk in political circles is that the Monsoon session could start in the first week of July.
The Budget Session, which concluded today, was earlier scheduled to have a second phase in April. But, it was dispensed with in view of assembly elections in five states.
The shortest Budget session in recent years came to a close after acrimony over diverse issues ranging from the CVC controversy to the cash-for-votes scam.
A highlight of the month-long session having 23 sittings was the setting up of the Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the 2G spectrum scam, an issue that had washed out the entire Winter Session.
