Woman jumps out of running train to escape sexual assault, sustains critical injuries

A 23-year-old woman from Anantapur jumped from a moving Telapur-Medchal MMTS train in Secunderabad to escape a sexual assault attempt. She is hospitalised with serious injuries.

A young woman sustained serious injuries after jumping from a moving Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) train in Secunderabad to escape a sexual assault attempt.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when a man entered the ladies' coach of the Telapur-Medchal MMTS train and tried to force himself on her, according to Railway Police.

Assault on a Moving Train

The 23-year-old, who hails from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh and works at a private company on the outskirts of Hyderabad, was traveling alone when the attack happened. She had boarded the train at Secunderabad Railway Station after getting her mobile phone repaired.

Two other women in the ladies' coach deboarded at Alwal Railway Station, leaving her alone. Around 8:30 p.m., a man entered the compartment, approached her, and demanded sexual favors. When she resisted, he attempted to assault her. In a desperate bid to escape, she jumped out of the moving train.

Injuries & Rescue

Passersby found the injured woman near a railway bridge in Kompally and alerted emergency services. She was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where she is receiving treatment for deep injuries on her head, chin, right hand, and waist.

Search for the Accused

The victim described the attacker as a thin man, around 25 years old, with a dark complexion, wearing a checkered shirt. She told police she could identify him if she saw him again.

Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Sai Eshwar Goud confirmed that a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

Heightened Security on MMTS Trains

Following the incident, Railway Police have increased security on MMTS trains, a suburban rail network operated by South Central Railway, to ensure the safety of passengers, especially women traveling alone.
