The Department of Personnel and Training (Ministry of Personnel, PG & Pensions) has issued consolidated instructions on risk allowance to Central Government employees.
As per the norms, the risk Allowance is currently given to Central Government employees engaged in hazardous duties or whose work will have a deleterious effect on health over a period of time.
Already the criteria have been fixed as:
-Those engaged in duties involving greater hazards or whose health is liable to be adversely affected progressively over a long period of time because of the particular avocation, and
-Sweepers/Safaiwalas engaged in cleaning of underground drains, sewer lines, those working in trenching grounds and infectious diseases hospitals.
As per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission on risk allowance and with approval of the Department of Expenditure, the rates of risk allowance were revised on November 3, 2020.
Accordingly, the existing categories of Government servants who are in receipt of Risk Allowances may continue to get the same, at revised rates as mentioned below:
1. Unskilled workers: Revised rates at Rs 90 per month
2. Semi-skilled workers: Rs 135 per month
3. Skilled workers: Revised rates at 180 per month
4. Supervisors: Revised rates at Rs 225 per month
5. Non-gazetted officers engaged in Nitro Glycerine preparation: Revised rates at Rs 405 per month
6. Gazetted officers engaged in Nitro Glycerine preparation: Revised rates at Rs 675 per month
7. Danger Building Officers: Revised rates at Rs 900 per month
The risk allowance will not be treated as "Pay" for any purpose, the latest notification read.
