Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jehanabad, Bihar

A Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher, recently posted in Bihar’s Jehanabad, was suspended after a video of her making derogatory remarks about the state went viral. The 24-year-old probationary primary teacher was frustrated after being posted in Bihar and can be heard saying, ‘people in Bihar have zero civic sense’.

“I am ready to be posted in Kolkata, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, or even Ladakh, where no one wants to go, but not Bihar. This is unacceptable. The ground reality is that people of Bihar have zero civic sense. India is a developing country because of Bihar. The day we remove Bihar, India will be a developed country,” she can be heard saying in the video.

Her statements have gone viral on social media, causing widespread outrage and a call for action.

Political Intervention

Although the video has been removed, Shambhavi Choudhary, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), representing Samastipur, intervened by sending a letter to the Commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). She demanded that disciplinary action be taken against the teacher for her statements.

“Such statements are highly inappropriate, unacceptable, and unbecoming of an educator, who is responsible for imparting knowledge and value to students,” Shambhavi said in her letter.

“This incident has deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of Bihar, and immediate action is necessary to maintain the trust and integrity of the institution,” she added.

Disciplinary Measures:

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan reacted swiftly, suspending the teacher under Rule 10 (1)(a) of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules, 1965. The directive also temporarily relocates her to Kendriya Vidyalaya in Mashrak, Chhapra, with strict instructions not to leave the school premises without the principal's approval.

“Through social media, she attempted to insult the people of Bihar by using offensive language. This is a very regrettable act, and appropriate action has been taken,” the district administration of Jehanabad said through a press release.

Police Action:

Meanwhile, the local police also took cognizance of the teacher’s video and called her to a cyber police station for questioning. Although no FIR has been registered, she has given her statement.
