A chaotic situation ensued in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur after a bride refused to marry the groom after the jaimala ceremony. Claiming him to be mentally unfit and less educated than her, the bride walked off stage, leaving both, her family and guests, confused.

The incident took place on November 17 in Mustafabad Kala village. As per reports, the groom’s side arrived at the venue along with a procession in the evening.

Everything went as usual with the bride’s family welcoming the arriving party and completing rituals. Thereafter, the attendees sat for feasting after the jaimala ceremony, which is when things turned sour.

All of a sudden, the 28-year-old bride demanded to walk off stage. A debate ensued on the pavilion where she confirmed her decision to not marry the groom.

Differences came as the bride was a graduate but the groom had failed his 10th standard exams. Additionally, she also alleged that the man she was to wed was not in good mental health.

Sources also mention that elders from both families tried to pacify the bride. However, she remained firm on her decision. Soon after, police reached the spot and took note of the situation but were unable to convince the bride, and the wedding was halted.

The two families have since agreed to call off the wedding and settle expenses. As soon as the groom’s family returns the former’s expenditure for the tilak ceremony, the latter will hand over the jewelry provided by the other party.
