In a chilling state of affairs, police revealed that a 22-year-old woman in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh allegedly conspired with her lover to hire a contract killer and murdered her husband just two weeks after their forced marriage.
The accused, Pragati Yadav, her partner Anurag Yadav, and hitman Ramaji Chaudhary, were arrested following the crime.
Media reports mentioned that Pragati and Anurag had been in a relationship for four years but were separated after her family married her to Dilip Yadav on March 5.
Unable to meet post-wedding, the duo plotted to kill Dilip. In the sequence of events, they settled on hiring a contract killer to do the job for them and paid Chaudhary Rs 2 lakh to execute the murder.
On March 19, Dilip was lured to a field, beaten, and shot. Locals found him critically injured and rushed him to Bidhuna’s health center. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to hospitals in Saifai, Gwalior, and finally, Auraiya, where he died on March 21.
Dilip’s brother filed a police complaint, leading to scrutiny of CCTV footage that identified the trio. Police recovered two pistols, cartridges, a bike, phones, and cash from the accused. However, reports added that additional suspects linked to the crime remain at large.
The case follows another grisly murder in Meerut, where a woman and her lover killed her husband, hid his body in a cement-filled drum, and were later arrested. The two gruesome incidents happening within the span of a week have sent shockwaves across the country.
