The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) has sanctioned 118.64 lakh houses since 2015, with 88.22 lakh already delivered to beneficiaries. Rs 1.66 lakh crore in Central assistance has been released, ensuring urban families a dignified home, informed Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu while replying to a question by MP Baijayant Panda in the Lok Sabha.
Panda wanted to know about the achievements and outcomes of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) in terms of house construction and the beneficiaries along with the total funds allocated and utilised under this scheme since inception.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs supplements the efforts of States/Union Territories (UTs) by providing Central Assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) since June 25, 2015, to provide pucca houses to eligible beneficiaries in urban areas across the country.
Based on project proposals submitted by the State/UT Governments, a total of 118.64 lakh houses have been sanctioned by the Ministry under the PMAY-U, out of which 114.22 lakh have been grounded and more than 88.22 lakh are completed/delivered to the beneficiaries as on 25.11.2024. The remaining houses are at different stages of construction.
So far, a total of Rs 1 .66 lakh crore of Central Assistance has been released to the States/UTs against which, Utilization Certificate of about Rs1.58 lakh crore has been received by the Ministry.
The scheme period of PMAY-U which was earlier up to 31.03.2022, has been extended till 31.12.2024, except for the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) vertical of the scheme, to complete all the houses sanctioned without changing the funding pattern and implementation methodology. The Ministry conducts regular reviews to monitor the early utilization of the fund released and the completion of houses under the scheme.
Taking to his official X handle, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda wrote, “This transformative initiative, driven by the Modi Govt, is fulfilling the Housing for All mission and empowering millions.”
