Retired Justices G T Nanavati and Akshay Mehta also adjourned the cross examination of Bhatt by the state government after the IPS officer requested for certified copies of his statements recorded earlier by the Commission, stating that lot of time has gone by since his last deposition.
Advocate Chetan Shah appearing on behalf of Rashtriya Suraksha Sangh, an NGO, told the Commission that the Facebook account of Bhatt showed that he was friend of Congress leaders like Arjun Modhwadia, Shaktisinh Gohil, Shankersinh Vaghela and Surendra Baxi and social activist Teesta Setalvad.
Shah alleged that Bhatt has conspired with them and made statements against Modi to implicate him in the 2002 riot cases, and therefore he should be given an opportunity to cross examine Bhatt.
The Commission rejected Shah`s application stating that it did not find any merit in the arguments but added that if it found the material submitted by him as relevant it would take it into consideration. .
