A woman Maoist surrendered before Kandhamal Police on Sunday. The ultra, Kanti Mallick, was an active member of KKBN Division of Odisha State Committee.

A native of Gangaranga village under Baliguda block, Kanti became active member of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit in 2018.

“Kanti was part of the KKBN Division Odisha State Committee and a Red Rebel since 2018. Now, she has realised that the Maoist’s ideology is futile. She is also inspired by various developmental activities being undertaken by the State government,” said Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP), Vinit Agrawal.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also urged all the active Maoist cadres and militia to surrender and join the main stream and it spurred Kanti to shun violence and desert the organisation,” said Agarwal. 

Kanti will get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of the Odisha government. It includes financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade/ vocation of her will.

Earlier in January, another woman Maoist- Lachchi Khara alias Lachhi alias Gita had surrendered in the district. She was an active member of Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).
