The Bhubaneswar district unit of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), led by president Babu Singh, took to streets today to protest over the pathetic condition of roads and leaking drainage system in the State’s Capital city.

Hundreds of BJP activists took out a ‘Padayatra’ from Jaydev Vihar Square to Mayfair Square and staged demonstration by burning tyres on the road. The protesters raised slogans like 'Unsmart Roads In Smart City' and accused the administration of showing callous attitude to the situation.

“Although Bhubaneswar has been claimed as the number one Smart City in the country, the condition of the roads here tells a different story.  People are scared to come out of their houses due to deteriorating road condition and commuters face various problems while travelling. Despite several complaints, neither the city administration nor has the State government taken any remedial action,” alleged Babu Singh.

“Along with that, the management of the drains in the city is very poor which is why sewers get chocked with floodwater during rainy season and subsequently lead to outbreak of vector-borne diseases like Dengue,” he added.

Speaking further on the issue, a fellow member of the party said, “The government is not focused in managing the drainage system nor is it worried about the worsening condition of the roads. If the administration does not take the necessary steps to resolve these problems we will intensify our protest in the coming days.”
