Two patients allegedly died after being transfused with wrong blood groups at Keonjhar district headquarters hospital (DHH).

The deceased patients have been identified as Dama Munda, a resident of Kandarapasi village and Muni Sahu of Raisuan Sahi under Sadar block in Keonjhar district.

While Dama and Muni succumbed on two different dates-on May 11 and May 27 respectively, the matter came to the fore Tuesday after the bereaved family members lodged a complaint with the district health officer and ADM.

Deceased Dama Munda’s son Ajit Munda alleged, “My father was admitted to the DHH on March 29. After being transfused with B positive blood group instead of A positive group, he succumbed on May 11.”

“My brother-in-law noticed that wrong type of blood group was being transfused to my father. We immediately alerted the nurse who stopped the transfusion,” Munda added.

The family members of Muni Sahu levelled the same allegation against the DHH authorities.

“The health condition of our patient (Muni Sahu) started deteriorating after transfusion of a B positive blood at the Keonjhar DHH. We took her to SCB Medical College and Hospital where doctors told us that she had been administered with wrong blood. While undergoing treatment she succumbed on May 27,” alleged  Babaji Sahu, a relative of deceased Muni Sahu.

When contacted, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Keonjhar DHH, Dr Sujata Rani Mishra said, “After the second incident, I came to know about both the cases. Though I can’t accept it that such a huge blunder would have happened, I have ordered a probe.”
