The much-awaited toy train service in Odisha’s famous Nandankanan Zoo has sparked smiles in the faces of the visitors after seven long years.

The zoo authorities have rolled out the joy ride from today which will provide visitors an unique experience of sightseeing in the natural aura of the zoo on train wheels.

As per the arrangements, a train with 4 coaches will provide the joy ride to around 700 visitors every day from 9 am to 5 pm. In order to facilitate the toy train, a broad gauge of 1.2 km has been laid out in the park.

A total of 72 visitors will get the chance to witness the rich flora and fauna of the zoo from the toy train in each ride. The zoo authorities have estimated to provide around 12 such joy rides each day.

The zoo administration has informed that the aerial ropeway facility will also be a reality in the park soon as the work for the same will begin this month. The foundation stone for the project will be laid today by Odisha Forest Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha on the eve of State-level Wildlife Week celebration.

Estimated to be built with around Rs 13 crore, the ropeway will connect the main zoo with the botanical garden on the other side of the Kanjia lake.

The ropeway will be constructed with mono-cable pulsated over 626 metre with two towers. While 12 cabins will be operated, each of these will have the capacity to accommodate three persons. The ticket cost has been fixed at Rs 95 plus GST.
