Humanity defies all odds and this has been rightly proved by a 70-yr-old man from Odisha.
You must have heard incidents of people rising above humanity to help people in difficulties. But the case of septuagenarian Madhusudan Patra going out of his way to help two orphaned kids may perhaps be the most heart-touching of them all.
Moved by the plight of two orphaned kids in Bhadrak, this elderly Ganjam man traversed 350 km on a moped to lend financial assistance to the grieving kids.
Itishree Peda, wife of Narahari Peda of Peda Sahi under Bania Panchayat in Bhadrak district had died due to tuberculosis on August 24. If that was not enough, Narahari breathed his last while performing the 10th-day rituals of his wife on the village river bank.
Electronics and print media carried the news how misfortune befell on two kids- Prabhati aged 5 and Prem aged 2-in quick succession, making them orphans in no time.
Madhusudan, a resident of Ganjam district, who is suffering from age-related hearing loss, had chanced to watch the heart-wrenching tale on a news channel. He could not help feeling sympathy for the duo whom the fate has left alone to fend for themselves.
He quickly made up his mind to lend help to the kids bereft of their parents. And what is most inspiring is that despite knowing the fact that it would be too tasking for a man of his age at the dusk of life to endure journey of travelling a total of 700 km, he could not stop his willingness to help those poor kids.
Feisty Madhusudan on Tuesday took his moped (Luna) out and embarked on the journey for a noble causewith sheer determination in his mind.
He met the kids, had a chat with them and gave them Rs 10,000 in cash before starting his return journey in no time.
During the time Madhusudan spent with the children, the sympathy he had with the kids could be felt easily. He had all along been in tears.
“After coming to know about the demise of their parents in a gap of less than fortnight, my heart went out for them. Then and there, I decided to meet the kids. I covered the distance riding my Luna to meet the kids. I gave them a little assistance of Rs 10,000,” said Madhusudan in tearful eyes.
“Today we have Madhusudan Babu with us. He can’t listen. He answers only when questions are given to his in written. In such a condition, he travelled over 300 km only to help my nephews. Our family will ever remain grateful to him,” said Raja Peda, brother of deceased Narahari Peda.
The help Madhusudan extended to the orphaned kids may be a small amount but there is no denying that what he has done is worth its weight in gold.
