Sasmita Rana, the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Kisannagar police station in Cuttack district, has been placed under suspension in connection with the death of a man following self-immolation attempt. 

Rana has been suspended with immediate effect for her negligence in duty, stated an order issued by the State Police Headquarters.

As per reports, Cuttack Superintendent of police (SP) had recommended suspension of the IIC over the incident following which the Director General of Police took action against Rana.

“Pending drawal of departmental proceeding, Sasmita Rana, IIC Kisannagar police station of Cuttack district is placed under suspension with immediate effect for her negligence in duty,” read the order issued by the State Police Headquarters.

“During the period of suspension, she will remain under the disciplinary control of IG of police, CR, Cuttack. She will draw the SA and DA as admissible under Rule 90 of Odisha Service Code,” the order further read.

Notably, a man identified as Gunanidhi Bisoi, who had attempted self-immolation in front of Kishannagar police station , succumbed to his burn injuries on Friday.

It is alleged that Bisoi had allegedly attempted suicide after failing to get the desired assistance from local Kishannagar police officials in connection with a land dispute and assault case registered by him.
