Sarpanch goes extra mile to teach students at his alma mater in Bhadrak 

Gobinda Chandra Mallick, Sarpanch of Barandua Panchayat under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district, is a teacher into the bargain!

One day Mallick had visited Jagabandhu Government Vidyapith at Barandua to inspect how students were being taught.

He was an alumnus of the said school. During his visit, he found nothing amiss. But, the students’ complaints about having problems in understanding mathematical problems for not having a mathematics teacher moved the teacher inside him.

On that day, Mallick donned the teacher’s hat and taught the students. His teaching skills endeared him to the students.

And the students’ affection made him decide to go on teaching them till appointment of a new teacher.  And since that day, Mallick has been walking the extra mile to teach students mathematics, making a balance between his day-to-day activities and his honorary job. 

Now, he is taking two mathematics classes every day. 

“We don’t have a mathematics teacher. Since the transfer of our mathematics teacher, we had been experiencing problems understanding mathematics. Now our Sarpanch sir is teaching us. He is so good at teaching that we are left with no doubts,” said a student, Subhalaxmi Mallick. 

“One day, I visited the school to see things were going on. During my visit, students came and complained to me that they are facing problems in understanding mathematical problems as they don’t have a teacher of that subject. Since then, I have been teaching mathematics to them and it gives me immense satisfaction,” said Mallick.
