Tight security measures will be in place for the State-level Republic Day celebrations and parade in Bhubaneswar, said Odisha DGP Sunil Bansal on Monday.

Bansal, who took a review of the security arrangement as well as the full-dress rehearsals, said even though the Republic Day celebrations will be a low-key affair owing to the Covid-19 situation, "It will be celebrated with all decorum," he said.

This time the number of contingents participating in the State-level parade has been reduced to 10 for effective implementation of the Covid-19 norms. RT-PCR test has been made mandatory for those participating in the parade.

“In view of the Covid-19 situation, we are avoiding large gathering. 10 contingents will be participating in the parade this time. As Odisha Governor, Chief Minister and other dignitaries will be attending the Republic Day function, adequate security arrangements have been made,” said Bansal.

Twin City Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said that five-tier security arrangement has been made for the Republic Day celebrations in Bhubaneswar.

“Around 25 platoons of police personnel along with 70 officers will be deployed. As per the SOP, 2 units of Special Tactical Unit will also be deployed to tackle any emergency situation,” said Priyadarshi.

The Twin City Police Commissioner said that stress is being given on CCTV surveillance in the security build up. The entire Mahatma Gandhi Marg will be cordoned off on January 26 till the completion of the parade.
