In a major crackdown, as many as 26 bonded labourers, including 11 women and a minor, were rescued from Khaprakhol under Patnagarh limits in Bolangir district on Monday.

As per reports, all the labourers hail from Lakhana area in the district and were being trafficked to Vijayawada and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. 

Acting on a tip-off, a police team carried out raids at Baijalasagar and Kapsipali Square areas and rescued the labourers while they were waiting to be transported to the neighbouring state. 

Meanwhile, two middlemen have been arrested in connection with the trafficking of the labourers.

Earlier on Sunday, as many as 42 bonded labourers, including 15 women and three minors, had been rescued by Kantabanji Police from a railway station while they were waiting to board a train to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. The police also arrested a middleman from the spot.
