At least four persons, including three cops, were injured in a fierce clash that broke out between the public and police during a demonstration by BJP activists outside Narasinghpur police station in Cuttack district on Friday.

The BJP had staged the protest against the 'illegal' arrest of three of their party activities by police from the Ratapat area. The protestors alleged that local police is targeting the party activists at the behest of BJD MLA Debi Prasad Mishra.

Trouble erupted after some agitated women protesters tried to lock the police station. However, a scuffle ensued after agitators allegedly stormed into the police station and tried to ransack the property. Police then resorted to lathi-charge to control the situation, the senior cops claimed.

It is alleged that the demonstrators pelted stones at police personnel. Four persons including three police personnel were injured in the clash.

Meanwhile, police have detained BJP leader Bijay Dalabehera and some activists at the police station.

Police claim that the three persons were picked in connection with the kidnapping and assault case registered this year. However, BJP alleged that the matter was resolved through an affidavit in court and police arbitrarily picked three persons in connection with the incident.
