Muscle-flexing by the BJD cadre was to fore in Baripada today when party workers from the opposition camp were beaten black and blue for waving black flags to CM Naveen Patnaik. The Chief Minister is on a visit to the Mayurbhaj district today.

As per reports, the BJD workers had assaulted two activists of JMM and BJP for attempting to show black flags to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik near the helipad when they were chased and attacked by the ruling party workers. who had come to welcome their party president.

The reports further added that the BJD workers rained punches on the opposition party workers so hard that it left them bruised. The duo had sustained multiple injuries on the face and was immediately escorted out from the spot.

The opposition party workers have managed to reach the helipad to show black flags, despite adequate security arrangements in place for the Chief Minister’s tour to the Mayurbhanj district today.

Over 16 platoons of the police force were deployed in view of large-scale political protests witnessed in the region during CM’s earlier visits.

CM Patnaik was in Baripada town in Mayurbanj district to attend a programme where he was scheduled to distribute smart health cards under the Biju Swastha Kalyan Yojana. Nearly 6 lakh beneficiaries in the district would benefit from the scheme, said a government release.

Apart from distributing smart health cards, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 534 projects worth Rs 2500 crore. The projects include- drinking water, road and bridge construction, power and works related to the urban development department.
