Alert officials of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Friday detected over Rs 28 lakh from a passenger’s luggage at Puri railway station.

As per initial reports, the cash was recovered from one Uday Kumar, who was scheduled to board a train to Visakhapatnam from the pilgrim  town.

The cash was recovered during routine luggage scanning at the railway station. Kumar hails from Visakhapatnam.

Though Kumar claims to have received the cash following a land deal, the RPF is conducting further investigation in connection with the recovery of the cash.

It is pertinent to mention here that a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), Cuttack had detected cash over Rs 24 lakh from the luggage of a passenger in December last year.

The passenger, who was travelling in New Delhi bound Rajdhani Express, had stashed the cash in his baggage. The bundles of cash in the denomination of Rs 10 and Rs 20 (new Indian currency notes) were seized from the possession of passenger, Arun Kumar Swain.
