A class 8 student at Goutam Nagar in Koraput district allegedly died by suicide after his family members took away his mobile phone for neglecting studies by playing games, on Wednesday.

As per reports, the 13year old boy, who studied at a private school in Koraput, was often neglecting his studies for his obsessive addiction to mobile phone games. He used to bunk online classes to play videogames on his mobile phone. The family members tried their best to persuade him to desist from playing videogames and concentrate on his studies.

However, the boy refused to mend his ways despite reprimands and persuasions. Irked by the callousness of their son, his parents on Wednesday took the phone away from him so that he could focus on studies.

Upset over the denial of access to the phone, the minor boy, in a fit of rage, went into a room of the house and locked the door from inside.

The parents grew anxious when he did not open the door despite repeated callings and knocks. Finally, they broke open the door and found their son hanging from the ceiling fan by a saree belonging to his mother.

He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Koraput where he was declared dead on arrival.

Upon being informed, the Koraput Town police reached the hospital and sent the body for post-mortem.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
