A well qualified youth from Magarguda village in Kandhamal district has provided an innovative solution to the residents of some remote villages who were facing numerous problems owing to poor mobile connectivity in G Udaygiri Block.
Earlier, seamless mobile network and connectivity was a distant dream for the residents of the village, which is located far away from Kandhamal district headquarters. The villagers had to trek 10-15 km everyday for availing various online services like mobile recharge, job card updates, and applying for jobs online.
Marconi Nayak, a B Tech student of the village has somehow solved the connectivity problems faced by the villagers through his home-grown rudimentary innovative ways.
As per locals, Marconi has turned a long bamboo into a mobile tower and places his mobile phone atop in a bag. By keeping the hotspot of the mobile phone active, he is able to provide various digital services to the rest of the village.
“I was working in a company in Delhi to earn my livelihood. However, I had to return to my village after the outbreak of the first wave of Covid-19. Then I decided to provide various digital services to the villagers to earn a living. But poor network was an issue. I applied my mind and used the simple technique for accessing network. I have been successful so far,” said Marconi.
The villagers are also very happy with the street smart technique of Marconi.
“Marconi has provided a temporary solution to our problems. We are happy and grateful for his service. However, the local administration should step forward and extend a permanent solution to beat the network blues in our area,” said a villager.
