The Keonjhar district administration on Sunday handed over a cheque of Rs 4,00,000 to the bereaved family of OTV Chief Reporter Arindam Das who passed away in a tragic boat mishap at Mundali in Cuttack during an elephant rescue operation on Friday.

“The State government had promised the financial assistance and at the behest of Keonjhar Collector we presented the cheque to the family members of Das at his home. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” said an official.
Meanwhile, members of the IIMC Alumni Association, Dhenkanal paid rich tributes to Arindam who was an alumni of the institution. They offered their heartfelt condolences and observed prayer in silence for the departed soul. They also recollected their memories with Arindam.
The last rites of Arindam were performed at his ancestral village on the banks of River Baitarani on Saturday.
Arindam’s body was taken to his village on Friday night after colleagues and friends paid tributes to him at OTV office in the evening.
Arindam died in a freak boat mishap while covering an operation launched by the ODRAF to rescue a wild tusker which was stranded at the Mundali barrage. Arindam and video journalist Prabhat Sinha were the two crew from OTV who were onboard in the ill-fated boat that was caught, and subsequently capsized, in the strong currents of Mahanadi river.
The Odisha Television (OTV) Limited has announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the bereaved family.
