Berhampur: A team of Excise Officials eventually landed in a major embarrassment after frisking a family vehicle here in the middle of the road over a wrong tip off regarding transportation of ganja.
A verbal duel ensued between the travellers and the Excise sleuths on the road for quite sometimes after the latter didn’t find any contraband articles from the vehicle.
According to reports, a woman identified as Sangita swain was travelling from Koraput to Bhubaneswar along with her two brothers, father and kid in her Scorpio SUV via Berhampur.

The excise sleuths intercepted the vehicle mid-way and inspected it in search of illegal contraband items. However, they failed to find any such materials from the vehicle following which the travellers got into an argument with the raiding officials.
"I was coming to my in-laws house in Bhubaneswar in our vehicle. I was sitting in back seat along with my father and kid. All of a sudden, they (officials) chased us and intercepted the vehicle midway. One of them ransacked my window glass in which my child sustained minor injuries on nose. Before informing us regarding the raid, another official dragged my brother sitting on rear seat and beat him up,” alleged Sangita Swain.
“They have ransacked the window glass. A small piece of broken glass also entered into the ear of my son," she said.
On the other hand, the Excise team which admitted it as failed intelligence input had a tough time pacify the gullible travellers.
"We had an intelligence input regarding transportation of ganja in the particular vehicle. Our sleuths had laid a trap accordingly. There was nothing in the vehicle following which they created noise. We tried to pacify them," said Biswajit Das, Excise Sub-inspector.
During interception, the vehicle has been partially damaged. “I can’t explain more about the unfortunate incident that took place incidentally,” he added.
