Odisha on Thursday reported 66 new deaths due to Covid infection taking the death toll to 4,861 in the pandemic. 

The maximum number of 21 fatalities was reported from Khordha district, 10 each from Bargarh and Sundargarh, eight from Balasore, seven from Sambalpur, two each from Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj and one each from Bolangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi and Puri.

“This list does not reflect deaths occurring on a particular day. It gives details of past deaths for which the death audit process has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as due to Covid-19,” the State Health department informed through its Twitter page.

The Covid positive tally in Odisha also rose to 9,47,859 after as many as 2,110 people tested positive for the virus on Thursday.

The active cases in the State reached 22,299 while 9,20,646 patients have recovered, including 2,605 on Wednesday, from the disease so far.

Of the fresh Covid-19 cases reported from 30 districts, 1,213 are from quarantine centres, while the rest 897 are local contact cases, the data revealed by the I&PR Department stated.

Khordha district reported the highest 458 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Cuttack (323), Balasore (168), Kendrapara (132), Puri (113), Mayurbhanj (99) and Jajpur (92).

The State has so far tested over 1,47,72,938 samples for Covid-19, including 69,287 in the last 24 hours.
