In a push to Odisha’s healthcare facility, a 38-year-old Iraqi national suffering from a rare skull disease has been cured after a successful surgery at the SUM Ultimate Medicare in Bhubaneswar.
The foreign national, identified as Jasim Kareem Faran Chnani, developed a swelling on his forehead and left eye after recovering from Covid-19. He was suffering from headache since last one month due to the swelling.
After certain tests in Iraq, he was diagnosed with rare Pott’s puffy tumour with invasive fungal frontal sinusitis and orbital involvement.
As there was no treatment available for the disease in Iraq, Chnani and his family flew to India. Later, they approached senior consultant and head of the department of ENT and scale base surgery Dr Radha Madhav Sahoo of the hospital for the treatment.
“The patient is recovering steadily and will be ready to depart to his country soon. He was suffering from rare Pott’s puffy tumour with invasive fungal frontal sinusitis and it had spread to his left eye,” Dr Sahoo said.
“Through a small incision on his eye lid and endoscopy through nose, we successfully managed to cure the patient,” he added.
