Veteran politician and former MLA from Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, Arun Dey passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 76.
Dey was under treatment at AMRI hospital in Bhubaneswar and breathed his last at 7.20 pm today, hospital authorities said.
A pall of gloom descended over Balasore following the demise of Dey, fondly called ‘Dada’ in the locality.
He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Balasore thrice on CPI ticket. He won the poll once as an independent candidate and once on the Odisha Gana Parishad (OGP) ticket.
Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal took to Twitter and expressed grief over the passing away of Dey.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Dey and said he will always be remembered for his work as a public representative.
Expressing grief over the demise of Dey, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Odisha lost an able politician.
BJP National vice-president Baijayant Panda also expressed grief over the passing away of the former legislator.
Odisha BJP president Samir Mohanty also expressed condolence over the death of the leader.
