In a good news to the hockey lovers across Odisha, first Odia documentary 'The Mountain Hockey' has been released on popular OTT platform Hotstar on Friday.

The documentary is based on the struggle and success story of a selfless hockey coach Rajendra Kujur, who goes through trying times and a lot of hardships in teaching the game to poor tribal girls in a remote village of Amalikhaman in Sundargarh district. The entire documentary has been shot in this village.

Debashis Mohapatra and Abinash Pradhan who have jointly directed the film say the idea behind the documentary struck them first during the successful hosting of Hockey World Cup 2018 in Bhubaneswar. However, the duo later came to know about the heart-wrenching and inspiring story of coach Kujur and his wards which they decided to picturise in their documentary.

It's a proud moment for all the Odias that for the first time a documentary in Odia language has been released in an international platform. I urge all the people of the State to watch and support the film," said Mohapatra.

Sundargarh is known as the nursery of hockey in India. 'The Mountain Hockey' depicts the dedication and determination of Kujur, who trained the tribal girls in a remote village for 10 years despite all odds including financial crisis and lack of sports equipment.

"All our players are passionate about hockey and work hard to develop their game all the time. All of them aspire to play in big platforms. We are hopeful that after the release of the documentary, their dreams will materialise," said an emotional Kujur on release of the documentary.
