Bhubaneswar: Even as the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas wracked havoc across Odisha, many families in the State welcomed their 'bundle of joy' during the calamity.

While one Saraswati Bairagi of Harinapokhari village delivered a baby girl at Talachuan primary health centre in Kendrapara district, many babies were delivered at different hospitals in Puri.

According to sources, Saraswati was shifted to the hospital by the district administration ahead of Cyclone Yaas landfall and she delivered a baby girl at around 6 pm yesterday.

Similarly, four expectant mother delivered babies at Nimapada, sources said adding that these women were expecting delivery between last week of May and first week of June. They were shifted to different hospitals in view of the very severe cyclonic storm.

“As part of evacuation effort in Nimapada, 4 pregnant women (who had expected date of delivery in last week of May and 1st week of June) were shifted to different hospitals yesterday and had safe delivery today,” Puri district administration tweeted.

Terming these deliveries as silver lining of cloud, the State Department of WCD & MS tweeted, “Every cloud has a silver lining! Safe delivery of healthy babies during these tough and testing times has brought happiness in many families along with the arrival of a bundle of joy.”

Notably, The very severe cyclonic storm Yaas, which had crossed north Odisha coast at 20 km south of Balasore between 10 and 11.30 am today, is weakening after landfall and has turned into cyclonic storm.
