The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday launched a probe into three separate incidents of injuries suffered by as many people, including a Law student, by dangling kite strings (Manja) in the capital city of Bhubaneswar.
As per initial reports, the three individuals were injured after their neck got entangled in kite strings near Dumduma Pala Mandap on Tuesday morning. The condition of all the three victims is said to be stable.
Following the incident, the local police reached the spot and confiscated the kite strings. A detailed investigation is being carried out into the incidents, police said.
It is pertinent to mention here that a youth died after his throat was slit by banned glass-coated kite strings in Cuttack on December 26 last year. The deceased, Jayant Samal was on his way to his in-laws place on a bike along with his wife when the Manja got entangled around his neck.
Another person in Puri was grievously injured the same evening when the dangerous kite Manja got entangled in his neck when he was rushing to fetch medicine for his ailing son.
Following the death of the youth in Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police had conducted multiple raids in different parts of the city. Huge quantities of illegal Manja strings were seized during the raid. As many as 14 persons were detained after four separate cases related to the sale and storage of illegal Manja registered against them. All the detainees were later let-off with notices.
