The Odisha Government on Monday directed Collectors to furnish report on losses suffered to the standing crop in their respective districts due to cyclone Jawad-induced rainfall.

Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management, Sudam Marndi has sought damage assessment reports from all district collectors following which compensation will be provided to the affected growers as per the relief code.

“The department has already sought damage assessment report from the Collectors. After a review on the damage caused due to the rainfall, financial aid will be provided to the affected persons as per the relief code norms,” said Marndi

Earlier, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena had assured that crop loss caused by cyclone Jawad-induced rainfall will be assessed within a week’s time after the impact of the cyclone ended.

Though cyclone Jawad which has weakened into a low pressure area ceased to cause any major damage but it triggered extremely heavy to heavy rainfall in several parts of the State, particularly in the coastal and northern parts, damaging standing crops and inundating several low-lying areas.

“The well-marked Low Pressure Area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal­Bangladesh coasts has weakened into a Low Pressure Area over the same region,” said the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar in its latest updates.

Under its impact, light to moderate rainfall has occurred at most places over the districts of coastal Odisha and north interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of south interior Odisha. Extremely heavy rainfall has occurred at one or two places over the district of Jagatsinghpur of north coastal Odisha.

Erasama (Jagatsinghpur) recorded the highest rainfall of  234 mm in the last 24 hours followed by Paradip (200mm), Balikuda (154 mm), Kujanga (140mm), Marshaghai in Kendrapara district (128 mm), Garadpur in Kendrapara district (128 mm), Kakatpur (117.2 mm),  Tirtol (115 mm), Astaranga in Puri district (109 mm) and Niali in Cuttack district (96 mm), respectively.
