As per the amended rules, the contractual government employees will henceforth be called ‘Initial appointees’ and the staff in Group B, C and D category of posts will be benefitted by the move.

The proposal was approved by the Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The State Cabinet also took 16 other crucial decisions concerning various departments today.

Briefing the media, Law Minister Pratap Jena said that those who have been working as contractual employees at present are entitled for regularisation of jobs after six years in service. With the amended rules, the initial appointees will get 50 per cent hike in salary from the first year itself as remuneration.

After six years, the employment of the initial appointees in government departments will be regularised. The State government will have to bear Rs 250 crore every year towards the enhanced remuneration of the initial appointees, said Jena.

According to Jena, the initial appointees will also be getting reimbursements for medical expenses as well which was not applicable earlier for the contractual employees.
