Resentment brewed among the residents of Nimapada village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar block over the construction of a Mission Shakti building by Odisha government on a temple land that belongs to Lord Balunkeswar Mahadev.

According to reports, the block administration has constructed the Mission Shakti (Self-help mission of Odisha government for empowering women through promotion of Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) to take up various socio-economic activities) building on the temple land without taking permission from the one who is the custodian of the land.

The incident has sparked tension among the locals and the villagers are vehemently opposing the functioning of the office in the building.

“The block administration has constructed the building without the permission of the temple committee. A No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required prior to the construction of the temple,” said the custodian of the temple, Saroj Kumar Parida.

“The administration has built the temple without obtaining an NOC, and it is illegal. We have lodged a complaint with the block administration in this regard,” said Parida.

Meanwhile, Jagatsinghpur Sadar Block Development Officer (BDO) Sagar Kumar Nanda said action will be taken in this matter in due course of time.

“Proper documents pertaining to the land will be verified and the complaint of the individual will be looked into before taking any decision regarding the already constructed building,” said Nanda.
