A breathtaking photograph of the Puri Srimandir captured by a young photographer from Odisha has created a sensation on the internet and listing accolades from all quarters including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The picture captured by Samarendra Dash magnifies the aura of the scared ‘Patitapabana Bana’ (the sacred flag) as a column of sun ray falls straight over the ‘Nilachakra’, the holy giant wheel mounted atop the 12th century shrine. The effect is more like the Sun God paying obeisance to the Lord of the Universe.

Dash captured the rare moment beautifully through his camera lens yesterday and uploaded the picture on his social media accounts. Moments later, the photo went viral on the internet, drawling laurels from netizens and devotees alike.

Taking to Twitter, CM Naveen Patnaik was all praise for the young photographer and wrote, “Jai Jagannath... Thank young photographer Samarendra Dash for sharing this beautiful picture.”

Dash, a resident of Chilika area, is presently working as a freelance photographer in Bhubaneswar. He earlier worked with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism department.

Meanwhile, Dash said the appreciation he received for the photograph will motivate him in the future.

“The Chief Minister shared my picture on his Twitter account. This will encourage me to further fine- tune my skills and keep working hard,” Dash said.

Nevertheless, the image is a sight to behold. It conveys many beliefs and legends associated with the Sreemandir in billion words.
